Shelf by Shelf Organization
I’m always forgetting things as I run out the door in the morning.
Whether it is the badge I need to get into the office or a certain set of keys. I have tried various methods including using post it notes on the door, which work pretty well, but as I’m running out the door the last thing I want to do is run back and find the specific item.
Recently, I came across the brilliant idea to create baskets based on individual days. For instance, I have a basket for each day of the week and I have labeled the day on the front. I store these baskets on a shelf I have in the closest room to my front door. When I get home, I make sure to take items out that I always need (i.e. wallet, badge, checkbook, etc.) and put them in the basket for the next day. I have found that this process becomes particularly useful for the various activities that I partake in on different days. I ensure that those items are placed in its designated basket early so I don’t have to think about it later. For instance, I keep my yoga gear in the Tuesday basket and my GMAT books in my Thursday basket for class.
This system has worked well for me so far. I have found myself spending less time wondering where items are when I know they have a special designated spot!
